The social science teaching minor for elementary education or junior high/middle school works to prepare future educators to deliver an informed and multidisciplinary approach to history, government, economics and geography. In small classes and working with a group of highly dedicated and qualified faculty, you will explore both general and specific times, places and events. The courses work to bring history alive and assist future teachers in making it personal and exciting to their students.
Additional credit hours could indicate a major, second minor, or certificate. A minimum of 120 credit hours is required to graduate.听 听
An undergraduate student should initiate a Change of Academic Program if they wish to add or remove a minor.听
The student obtains a Change of Academic Program form from the Registrar's Office or the department of the new major/minor, secures the signature of the department chair/director (or dean) of any major/minor to be added, and returns the form to the Registrar's Office for processing.听
A student must submit the completed form by the Thursday before priority registration if the change is to be made within the current semester. Unless granted a waiver by the department of the new major, the student must meet all current program requirements for graduation.听
Please note that the social science teaching minor may be used only in combination with a major in elementary education or special education. This minor may not be used in combination with a teaching major at the secondary education level (or early childhood, or a non-teaching major). This minor will not lead to licensure in social sciences for secondary education.
