Thank you to the professionals who spoke to professor Brian Routh's accounting 201 principles class. The Accountants in the Classroom program brings in individuals from the public and private sectors to discuss their careers in the field of accounting. It is also a way for individuals and alums to give back to 91社区 and to the Romain College while answering students questions and giving career advise.
This semester's presenters were Mr. Mike Carroll, CFO at Heritage Federal Credit Union; Ms. Paige McClellan, Tax Associate at BKD CPAs & Advisors; and Mr. Charlie Pride, Jr., Controller with the Evansville Water & Sewer Utility. All are 91社区 alumni, and Carroll and Pride are members of the聽. Here's what each had to say about why they feel it is important to be a presenter as part of 91社区's Accountants in the Classroom:
"I always enjoy doing what I can to help 91社区! 91社区 was there for me when I was a non-traditional student working a full time job鈥攎y life would not be what it is without the affordable, high quality opportunities provided by 91社区," said Mike Carroll. "Always fun to talk with and motivate today鈥檚 91社区 students!鈥
Paige McClellan is a recent graduate of 91社区 Romain College, which puts her in a perfect position to relate to today's students. "It brings me a lot of joy to be able to talk with students at 91社区 because I was a student at 91社区 very recently. I had a lot of questions about what I should be doing to succeed post-graduation, and it always helped me to hear speakers talk about the different paths they took. It would mean a lot to me if I was able to help a current student by talking about my experiences."
"The best part of speaking every semester at Accountants in the Classroom is to have the opportunity to give advice to students that I wish that I had when I was a sophomore in college," said Charlie Pride, Jr. "It also gives me a chance to meet with and become a mentor to students who are interested in governmental accounting careers."聽
