Steven Casement
Instructor in History

Steven Casement is joining the history department at the 91社区 as an instructor after completing his Ph.D. in Early Modern Global history at The Pennsylvania State University. Casement completed his M.A. in History at Penn State and his B.A. in History and Social Studies Education at Le Moyne College in Central New York. Casement was certified as an adolescent educator teaching both Junior High and High School before teaching at the university level at Penn State as an instructor of record. His research focuses on the diplomatic overtures made between Britain and Spain during the seventeenth century.

Roger Gude
Instructor in Professional Studies and Advisor聽

Roger Gude is joining the Bachelor of Professional Studies program as an Instructor and Advisor. He holds an MFA in Creative Writing from Naropa University鈥檚 Jack Kerouac School of Disembodied Poetics and a BS in English from the 91社区. With a background in admissions, student services, instruction, and advising, he brings a wealth of experience to his role. Roger鈥檚 writing and research interests include human rights, educational theory, and the impact of technology on contemporary culture, particularly in music, film, interactive media, and literature. He has published works in both fiction and non-fiction and has served as Poetry and Archives Editor for Bombay Gin magazine.

Bryan Moore
Assistant Professor of Criminal Justice

Bryan recently graduated with his Ph.D. in criminal justice from the University of Louisville, where he taught undergraduate courses for four semesters. He previously graduated from William & Mary Law School and is a licensed Kentucky attorney. Bryan鈥檚 research interests include: criminal law, victimology, queer criminology, and intersectional analyses of minorities in the criminal justice system.

Hang Yuan
Assistant Professor of Art and Design

Hang Yuan, Assistant Professor of Art & Design, completed both an M.F.A. in Integrated Visual Arts and an M.S. in Human-Computer Interaction from Iowa State University. He earned a B.A. in Film Studies and a B.F.A. in Theatre-Film and New Media from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln. Hang's professional interests encompass teaching and research in visual arts, human-computer interaction, and design methodologies. He has previous experience in interdisciplinary research, particularly focusing on virtual reality, game design, and their applications in enhancing user experiences and educational environments.

Matrika Brown
Instructor in Nursing (APRN)

Matrika is a graduate of the 91社区 and a board certified psychiatric nurse practitioner. She is also a certified lifestyle medicine professional and has received training in mind body medicine and transformative nurse coaching. Matrika has been practicing as a psychiatric nurse practitioner for over ten years and has previously served as adjunct faculty for the College of Nursing at 91社区. She will continue her outpatient mental health practice part time in addition to her new full time faculty role.

Erin Parchman
Assistant Professor of Respiratory Therapy and Director of Clinical Education

Erin is a graduate of Weber State University Masters in Respiratory Education and currently holds her RRT, CPFT, and AE-C credentials. She has extensive ICU and Trauma care experience in Trauma I facilities, whole body health and sleep medicine, and is also prior US Air Force. In light of her varied background, she discovered that she is most passionate about equipping and empowering fellow clinicians. Her goal is to inspire clinicians to be excellent in a field that desperately needs them to perform and rise to their best. She is excited to be exceptional together with team 91社区!

Kaitlyn Sturgell
Assistant Professor of Dental Assisting/Dental Hygiene

Kaitlyn graduated from 91社区's dental hygiene program in 2019. Since then she has remained active in her community serving as the IDHA: Ohio Valley Component Chair and a part-time faculty members in the 91社区 dental hygiene clinic. She always knew that she wanted to pursue a career in higher education and completed her Master of Health Administration in 2024. Her research interests fall under lip/tongue tie restrictions and its implications in the dental field. She was previously published in RDH magazine for her review of dental decay and its association to feeding habits. She currently lives with her husband and three children on a farmstead in New Harmony where they manage 25 cattle. Outside of academics you will find her hiking, reading, or swimming with her family.

Jennifer Skelton
Assistant Professor of Health Administration/Health Informatics and Information Management

Dr. Jennifer Skelton is a healthcare professional with nearly 20 years of experience at Deaconess Women's Hospital, where she advanced to the role of Director of Quality and Informatics. She holds bachelor's (Biology) and master's (MBA, Data Analytics) degrees from 91社区 and earned her Doctor of Health Science in 2023 from the University of Indianapolis. Dr. Skelton has also collaborated with obstetric leaders statewide to enhance maternity care quality through a role with the Indiana Department of Health. Her research interests focus on using technology, including simulation, AI, and VR, to improve patient and student outcomes, leadership development, and healthcare quality education.

Kristen Tobin
Assistant Professor in Nursing

Kristen Tobin, DNP, RN graduated with her BSN from 91社区 in 2015. After graduation, Kristen worked at Deaconess Gateway as an adult ICU nurse prior to transferring to Deaconess Women鈥檚 Hospital where she has worked as a bedside nurse in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit since 2016. Kristen鈥檚 passion has always been in education and she pursued her DNP at 91社区 where she graduated in May 2024. While working on her DNP, Kristen worked as an adjunct for 91社区 and knew education was where she belonged. Kristen is excited to begin her career in academia this fall.聽

Renee Willis
Instructor in Nursing

Renee Willis MSN, RN graduate of 91社区 in 2004 with bachelor's in health sciences and 2009 bachelor's in nursing. Studied at South University and obtained master's in nursing education in 2023. She has been with Deaconess Gateway Cardiac ICU since graduation with BSN in 2009. Renee has worked as a bedside RN for 8 years before taking on the team lead role in 2017. This role encompassed education for staff, including ICU/PCT skills day, new procedures/equipment training, she also managed the graduate new nurse orientation and maintained up to date certifications for all staff. Holds certifications in ECMO, CRRT, IABP, Impella, IO insertion, Modified Rankin, NIHSS, PALS, BLS, ACLS Instructor and Botox/filler injector. Began her career at 91社区 as a Nursing Instructor in March of 2024. She has a passion for teaching and is excited to expand her knowledge in the academic world of nursing.

As the newest Research Services Librarian, Rachel will be the Rice Library's liaison to the Children's Resource Literacy Center and the Education Department, along with several departments within the College of Liberal Arts. She looks forward to providing library instruction sessions and personalized research consultations to classes and students who would benefit from such services.

Incheol Jang
Assistant Professor of Kinesiology and Sport

Dr. Jang is an assistant professor of sport management at the 91社区. He holds two Master鈥檚 degrees鈥攐ne from Yeungnam University and another from Southern Illinois University鈥攁nd a Ph.D. in Recreation, Sport, and Tourism from the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign. His research focuses on human resource management in sport, strategic management in sport, and organizational resilience in sport. Dr. Jang has published several articles in sport and recreation journals. As an educator, he focuses on integrating new technologies and methodologies to enhance his teaching and improve the learning experience for his students.

Jason Langley
Assistant Professor of Kinesiology and Sport

I have a Ph.D. in Kinesiology from West Virginia University. I enjoy teaching about all aspects of sport from skill and physical performance to the management/ administrative side including coaching.This summer I spent two months teaching in Chengdu, China. I have 10 plus years of teaching experience in higher education. In the past, I've involved students in performance testing research using high school and college athletes. My goal is to aid all students to progress towards their ultimate career aspiration.

Keith Pate
Assistant Professor of Engineering

Keith Pate is a technology professional pursuing a Ph.D. at Purdue University. He holds two bachelor鈥檚 degrees in mechanical engineering and engineering from the 91社区. After completing his undergraduate studies, Keith gained experience as a quality engineer and test engineer at Allison Transmission. He earned a master鈥檚 degree in engineering technology from Purdue University, where he served as both a teaching assistant and research assistant. During his teaching appointment, Keith gained experience instructing courses in manufacturing, mechatronics, and fluid power. His research focuses on enhancing fluid power systems with advanced digital hydraulic pump technologies and improving engineering and technology education through the advancement of technological tools.

Janell Pycior
Assistant Professor of Education

Janell Pycior earned her B.S.E. in Elementary Education and M.S.E. in Curriculum & Instruction from the University of Central Missouri, and an Ed.S. degree in Educational Technology from the University of Missouri. She will defend her Ed.D. dissertation early this fall, which explores the lack of diversity in children's and middle grade literature while promoting cultural relevance through classroom literature. Janell has been an adjunct in the 91社区 Teacher Education Department since fall of 2020. Prior to 91社区, Janell lived in Nebraska, where she taught early childhood education, and before that, she lived in Kansas and Missouri, where she taught elementary school for nine years. Additionally, she led two chapters of an international non-profit organization geared towards mothers and children in Nebraska and Indiana.

Maria Schutte
Teaching Assistant Professor of Physics

Dr. Maria Schutte was born in Evansville, Indiana and attended the University of Evansville where she graduated summa cum laude in 2017 with a BS in physics. She continued her education at the University of Oklahoma where she completed her PhD in physics in 2023. During her graduate education, she researched the activity of stars other than the Sun and authored four academic papers on the subject. Dr. Schutte developed a passion for teaching physics and astronomy while being a teaching assistant at OU and gained more experience as an adjunct professor at Hobart and William Smith Colleges in 2021. Dr. Schutte is excited to continue gaining teaching experience at 91社区.

Chris Sedlacek
Assistant Professor of Biology

Chris is coming to 91社区 from the University of Vienna in Austria, where he has spent last ~9 years as a Postdoctoral researcher. Originally from Canada, Chris previously spent 10 years in the US earning a BS in Biology from Fairmont State University in West Virginia and a PhD in Microbiology from Miami University in Ohio. His research interests are focused on characterizing environmentally relevant microorganisms, in particular agriculturally important microorganisms. The aim is to be able to reduce greenhouse gas emissions from agriculture and improve water quality. Outside of the laboratory/ classroom, Chris is an avid swimmer and music enthusiast.

Mina Woo
Assistant Professor of Kinesiology and Sport

Dr. Mina Woo is an assistant professor of Sport Management at the 91社区. She earned her PhD in Recreation, Sport and Tourism from the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign and holds a Master of Science in Recreation Administration from Illinois State University. Her research focuses on sport and leisure across the life course, particularly for women in mid and later life and individuals with disabilities. She has led several research projects, including developing and distributing disability training for recreation instructors to foster inclusive environments in community programs. Her work aims to enhance diverse sport and leisure opportunities for all individuals.

Qiongwen "Ivy" Lei
Assistant Professor of Finance

Qiongwen 鈥淚vy鈥 Lei will join 91社区 as an Assistant Professor of Finance in August 2024. She completed her PhD concentrating on finance from the University at Buffalo in 2024 and obtained a Master of Finance from the Frankfurt School of Finance & Management and a Bachelor of Arts concentrating on mathematics and economics from Fudan University. She once worked in the asset management industries in Germany and China and has obtained the Financial Risk Manager (FRM) charter and Certified Financial Planner (CFP) of China charter. Her research interests include asset pricing, fixed income, and new techniques application in finance.

Dr. Thir Budhathoki earned his Ph. D. in English, Rhetoric and Composition at University of Arizona in May 2023. He received his M. Phil. and M. A. in English at Tribhuvan University, Nepal where he also worked as a faculty before moving to the U. S. in 2017. His research and teaching interests center on linguistically just writing practices in Writing Studies and Professional and Technical Writing. His work has appeared in the journals like Literacy in Composition Studies, Composition Forum, Technical Communication Quarterly, and Journal of Research and Practice in College Teaching.

Ngoc N. Nguyen is presently Assistant Professor of Social Work at the 91社区 (91社区). He holds a Ph.D. degree in Social Work from University of Pittsburgh and a Master degree of Social Work from Boston College. He has many years of experiences working with international non-profit organizations and in-need populations in Vietnam and the United States. He also has many years teaching experience at various universities in Vietnam. His research areas of interest include religion and human behaviors, youth addiction, addiction treatment, school violence, and mental health problems. (Dr. Nguyen joined in Spring 2023)

Raymond "Doug" Partin
Assistant Professor of Criminal Justice
Doug is an assistant professor of criminal justice who holds a doctorate in international crime and justice from Florida International University. Additionally, he received both his master鈥檚 and bachelor鈥檚 degrees in criminal justice from the University of Cincinnati. Doug鈥檚 research and teaching interests include cybercrime, the Dark Web, and criminological theory. His recent research has appeared in journals such as Crime & Delinquency, Journal of Criminal Justice, and American Journal of Criminal Justice.

Joshua Robinson
Assistant Professor of Musical Theatre
Joshua Robinson is the new Assistant Professor of Musical Theatre. He holds a Ph.D. in theater and drama from IU, an MA in American Studies from Columbia University, and a BA in history from Kean University. He is a proud member of the Stage Directors and Choreographers Society. Previously, he served as Director of Theatre and Chair of the BFA in Musical Theatre program at Southwestern College in Winfield, KS. While his teaching interests focus on Musical Theatre performer training, his research interests lie in Contemporary Musical Theatre Studies, particularly the work of Michael John LaChiusa.

Jeffery Keene Short received his MFA in creative writing from the University of Idaho and also holds a Master's in English from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln. Originally from Arizona, where he received BA degrees in English and History, his writing and research interests include environmental humanities, pop culture studies, and the role of food in creative writing. He is the editor-in-chief for Atticus Review.

Jamie Baker
Instructor of Food and Nutrition
Jamie graduated from 91社区 in 2014 with a BS in Food and Nutrition, Dietetics Specialty. She then completed her dietetic internship and sat for the registration exam to become a Registered Dietitian in 2015. Jamie completed an MS in Nutrition from Murray State University in 2018 and in 2020 began pursuing a PhD in Health Education and Promotion from Walden University. In her 7.5 years of practice she worked for the Women, Infants, and Children (WIC) program in Kentucky and specialized in lactation. She earned the credential of International Board Certified Lactation Consultant (IBCLC) in 2019. As a result, her research interests lie in the field of lactation.

Megen Brown

Megen is from Henderson, KY, where she grew up and currently resides. She graduated from 91社区 with a BSN (2010) and MSN (2013). She is a Family Nurse Practitioner, but has primarily focused her career on pediatrics. She has nursing experience in Pediatrics and NICU. She has spent the last 9.5 years practicing as a nurse practitioner at Peyton Manning Center for Children Sub-Specialty Clinic where she spent 6 years in neurodevelopmental pediatrics and the last 3 in pediatric Endocrinology. Over the last several years, she has enjoyed mentoring and teaching undergraduate and graduate nursing students. While she loves practicing and providing care to patients and their families, she has always had a desire to return to 91社区 to teach. She is excited to begin this new role at 91社区 and is looking forward to engaging with the students and assisting future nurses in meeting their educational goals.

Christina "Chrissy" Buxton

Nursing Instructor Christina Buxton earned her BSN at the University of Michigan School of Nursing and her MSN in public health/community health/home health care at the University of Michigan. At this time, she also earned a certificate in nursing education. She is a board-certified nurse in nursing professional development. She worked at the University of Michigan Health System. In 2015, she continued her career at Indiana University Health in Bloomington, IN. In August 2019, Christina began working as a Clinical Assistant Professor at Indiana University. In January 2023, Christina continued her career in academia at 91社区. She has practiced nursing and nursing professional development on a medical surgical unit, orthopedic/trauma unit, and inpatient psychiatric unit. She is a certified Mental Health First Aid instructor and an American Red Cross nurse.

Brandon Cole earned his Master of Science in Nursing with an emphasis in Nursing Management and Leadership in 2020 from the 91社区. He also earned a Bachelor's degree in Journalism from 91社区 in 2007 and is currently working on his Doctorate in Nursing through 91社区. Brandon especially enjoys teaching in the clinical setting. Research is a natural fit that goes along with his Journalism degree. Brandon has nursing experience in the following fields: Medical Surgical, PACU, Cardiovascular, Long Term Acute Care, and Rehabilitation.

Kara Doucet

Kara completed her undergraduate and graduate work at the University of Kentucky. Her practice experience includes cardiovascular surgery, neurosurgical, and trauma/surgical critical care, abdominal transplant and pulmonary critical care medicine. Her teaching experiences include serving as adjunct clinical faculty for the DNP AGACNP track at the University of Kentucky, until relocating to be closer to family in Henderson, KY. She joined 91社区 as adjunct clinical faculty for the Acute Care NP track in Spring of 2023. Her professional interests include clinical practice, critical care management and palliative care.

Leslie Kirkwood

Leslie is a graduate of 91社区, completing her associate degree in Nursing in 1992 and Bachelor's degree in Nursing in 1994. She earned her Master of Science in Nursing Education from the University of Evansville in 1998. She worked as a bedside nurse for 16 years prior to starting a career in academia at Ivy Tech Community College in Evansville in 2008, where she taught in both LPN and RN programs. She is currently a doctoral candidate in the College of Education at the University of Alabama with plans to graduate in May 2024.

Dr. Theresa Marcotte is a 91社区 alumni (MSN Class of 2002). Dr. Marcotte earned her DNP with a focus on empowerment and innovation in nursing. As an educator, Dr. Marcotte has taught across the nursing educational spectrum from undergrad to graduate nursing. She has also served as a Dean of Instruction and Associate Dean of Nursing and Allied Health during her career. As a new member of the nursing faculty at 91社区, Dr. Marcotte's main goal is to support students in becoming quality nurses, innovating and advocating for the profession of nursing and becoming nursing leaders of the future.

Abigail "Abbi" McIntosh

Abbi grew up in Louisville, KY. She came to Evansville in 2009 to play volleyball for 91社区 and go to nursing school. She graduated in 2013 with her BSN. She has worked in med-surg nursing for Deaconess and as a travel nurse in Indianapolis. She got her MSN in 2020 from 91社区. She has since worked for Deaconess as a Family Nurse Practitioner. She has worked as an adjunct in the graduate FNP program for the past 2 summers. This will be her first full time faculty role starting this fall.

Stephanie Rexing
Assistant Professor of Occupational Therapy
Dr. Stephanie Rexing is joining the 91社区鈥檚 College of Nursing and Health Professions as an Assistant Professor of Occupational Therapy. Stephanie completed her Masters in Occupational Therapy (OT) at 91社区 in 2014. Achieving her Certified Lymphatic Therapist certification in 2015 she spent seven years in community health serving the lymphedema population. Her passion to provide evidence-based services led her to pursue her Occupational Therapy Doctorate from Eastern Kentucky University from 2019-2021. Stephanie鈥檚 Leadership and Capstone objectives focused on improving OT service delivery to individuals diagnosed with breast cancer. Stephanie is passionate about OT and excited to impact the future of the profession through academics, research, and service.

Jordan Thomason

Jordan graduated from the 91社区 diagnostic medical sonography program in 2013. She has over 10 years of experience in ultrasound doing multiple specialties including high risk OB, adult echo, pediatric echo, and fetal echo. After many years of scanning her career has brought her to 91社区. She started teaching as an adjunct faculty member and is now the clinical coordinator for the diagnostic medical sonography program. She looks forward to working and growing at 91社区.

Zulfikar Ali
Assistant Professor of Physics
Dr. Zulfikar Ali earned his M.Sc. in Physics from the Indian Institute of Technology, Kharagpur, and obtained a Ph.D. in Physics from Clark University. As a postdoctoral associate at UMass Chan Medical School, he honed his expertise before joining 91社区 as an Assistant Professor of Physics. Dr. Ali has been captivated by the concept that life's complexity can be understood through fundamental principles. His research, spanning both his Ph.D. and postdoc years, delves into the molecular and cellular workings of biological systems. Utilizing simple toy models, analytical calculations driven by data, numerical simulations, and statistical mechanics, he unravels the mechanisms governing biological processes. Driven by a relentless curiosity, he continues his exploration in the vast domain of gene regulation, cellular decision-making, and the evolutionary design principles of genetic circuits.

Lara Christoun

Scott Grady
Assistant Professor of Chemistry
Scott Grady obtained his bachelor's in Chemistry from the University of Evansville before moving to Saint Louis to pursue his doctoral studies at Saint Louis University. There, he oversaw organic and general chemistry teaching labs as a graduate teaching assistant and remained involved with curriculum development after moving on to a research assistant position. After completing his graduate education, he was hired on as an assistant professor of organic chemistry at 91社区. His research areas span multiple disciplines, reflecting the diversity of his training, including virology, synthesis, and analytical chemistry. More specifically, his research focuses on synthetic design, flavivirus drug development, and mass spectrometry-based metabolomics. His teaching style involves a lecture/discussion hybrid with anonymous live feedback during the lecture to identify points of confusion.

Timothy Mattison
Assistant Professor of Education
Dr. Timothy Mattison earned his Ph.D. in Educational Leadership at the University of Texas at San Antonio. He earned master's degrees in public affairs and Russian at the University of Texas at Austin's LBJ School of Public Affairs, and his B.S. in Political Science at the University of Wisconsin-La Crosse. Dr. Mattison has served as a High School Math Teacher, K-8 Math Specialist and Instructional Coach, Assistant Principal and Associate Principal. He served in these roles at traditional public and public charter schools in Texas. Dr. Mattison also served for 3 years as the Director of Policy and Research at the Texas Public Charter Schools Association conducting advocacy research. He is currently serving as Assistant Professor at the 91社区's Department of Teacher Education.

Jason Ulery
Contract Assistant of Physics
Dr. Jason Ulery earned his B.S. in Mathematics and Physics from Manchester University in 2001 and his Ph.D. in Physics from Purdue University in 2007. He did postdoctoral research at Goethe University in Frankfurt, Germany. Jason's research was in high-energy nuclear physics where he studied nuclei-nuclei collisions on particle accelerators, including the Large Hadron Collider. These collisions produce the hottest man-made explosions with a temperature hot enough it should form a state of matter, called a quark-gluon plasma, where protons and neutrons break apart. Jason has been teaching high school physics for the past nine years and has been a physics adjunct for 91社区 part of that time. His other research interests include physics education. Dr. Ulery is looking forward to teaching physics for education majors and introductory physics courses.

Jessica Felix
Assistant Professor of Marketing
Jessica Felix is a new Assistant Professor of Marketing at the 91社区. She obtained her Bachelor's, Master's, and PhD in Marketing from the University of Texas at El Paso. She has taught marketing research and will begin teaching principles of marketing in the fall. Jessica's research focuses on online platforms and the strategic implications of business relationships in this context.

Michael Klein
Instructor of Accounting
Michael Klein has a PhD in Criminal Justice and Criminology from Washington State University, has a Master of Professional Accounting from Winona State University, and is on his way to a CPA accreditation. Michael is interested in research related to fraud and governmental accounting. A southern Indiana native, he is excited to return to a region he loves.

Sonik Mandal
Assistant Professor of Finance
Dr. Sonik Mandal is joining as new finance faculty in the Romain College of Business. He was teaching for around 4 and a half years at Cameron University before accepting the offer here at 91社区. Sonik has a PhD in finance from Old Dominion University and an MBA from Iowa State University. He is a native of India having completed his undergraduate studies from Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Kharagpur. Sonik will be teaching classes on financial management, investments, business finance and much more in the department of finance. His research interests include derivative hedging, dividend policy, capital structure and managerial characteristics/risk preferences. Magdalena Viktora-Jones
Assistant Professor of Management
Magdalena Viktora-Jones obtained a B.A. in International Business and an M.B.A. with an emphasis in Management from Lindenwood University, an M.A. in Modern Language from the University of Arkansas, and a Ph.D. in International Business from Florida International University. Her research interests include corporate domestic and global strategies and connections concerning diversity, reputation, and language management. Magdalena has taught business and foreign language courses where she used a combination of interactive learning methods. She is also an engaged member of the Academy of Management and the Academy of International Business.
