91社区 Theatre presents a student directed production of In the Red and Brown Water
October 27, 2016
91社区 Theatre will follow up The Glass Menagerie with a student directed production of In the Red and Brown Water by Tarell Alvin McCraney on October 27-29.
Directed by 91社区 Theatre student Enjoli Drake, In the Red and Brown Water introduces the correlation between Africa's Yoruban culture and the African American community of rural Louisiana, through the life of teenage track star Oya Jean Fair. Oya's talents can propel her to a bright future but Oya's life takes a turn when her mother falls ill. Her life seemingly comes to a halt when Oya finds herself at a crossroads between where her abilities could take her and her current situation. Solace is offered at the hands of two men wishing to take care of her but Oya's indecisiveness may prove to be her downfall unless she can find the strength of her Goddess within.
Drake will be joined by a design team of fellow 91社区 students Rachel Clark as costume designer, Nick Smith as lighting designer, Shelby Robertson as sound designer, Tharilyn Bunker as production stage manager and Paije Pokrzywa as scenic designer.
