Each year, the College of Nursing and Health Professions seeks nominations for the 91社区鈥檚 Trustees Distinguished Merit Award and the Bill Sands Communications Studies Award. These two university-wide awards offer monetary academic funding for recipients. Each college can only nominate one student for each award. This year, our program nominated a student for each award from the Class of 2025: Savannah Hoffman for the Trustees award and Shelby Livingston for the Bill Sands award. Both Shelby and Savannah moved forward as the College of Nursing and Health Professions鈥 nominees for these awards at the university level. Winners of these awards will be announced at a later date. Savannah was also named as the student representative for the College of Nursing and Health Professions on the University Student Affairs Committee. Congratulations to both of these students on these noteworthy accomplishments!

The Radiologic and Imaging Sciences program had two student representatives, Hortensia Almanza '23, at left, and Eva Chung Loo '23, at the state meeting of the Indiana Society of Radiologic Technologists on September 30, 2022, in Indianapolis, Indiana. The students took advantage of the opportunity and registered at the last minute to compete in the state quiz bowl. Their team of two took home third place for the state!
Megan Webster 鈥21, Radiologic and Imaging Sciences, was selected as one of only two students in the state of Indiana to participate in the American Society of Radiologic Technologists (ASRT) Student Leadership Development Program (SLDP).
Approximately聽90-100 students from across the United States will participate in this program, which offers students the opportunity to attend the 2020 ASRT Educational Symposium and Annual Governance and House of Delegates Meeting in Albuquerque, New Mexico, June 24-28.
鈥淚 feel very fortunate to be chosen as one of the Indiana students,鈥 she said. 鈥淚 didn鈥檛 think I鈥檇 get the opportunity when I applied, so I鈥檓 very appreciative and excited for the conference in June! I attended the ISRT (Indiana Society of Radiologic Technologists) conference in October last year and really enjoyed it!鈥
Students selected for this program receive airfare, housing and a stipend for meals and travel expenses, plus they are afforded an insider鈥檚 look into the world鈥檚 largest association for medical imaging and radiation therapy professionals with opportunities for networking, education and professional growth.
Webster, of Newburgh, Indiana, is a member of Lambda Nu Theta Chi, 91社区鈥檚 chapter of the national society for radiology students, and she works 20 hours a week at Deaconess Hospital. When she was working on her first degree from 91社区 (double majoring in anthropology and Spanish studies, graduating in 2016) she was an AMIGO orientation leader on campus.
After graduation, she plans to work as an MRI tech, but said she is also open to working in a few different modalities during her career.
