Kristy Denton '12, MHA '15 has a new title to add to her resume: Mrs. Southern Indiana!聽The 91社区 graduate, wife, mother, long-term care administrator and adjunct instructor for Romain College of Business competed as Mrs. Southern Indiana in the Mrs. Indiana for America Pageant in South Bend, Indiana, on March 4.
Before being crowned Mrs. Southern Indiana, the Newburgh, Indiana, native had never been involved in pageants.
She and her husband, Dr. Jason Denton, have a son, age 8.
As a 91社区 student, Denton worked full-time as a physical therapy assistant while earning a degree in Health Services and her Master of Health Administration (MHA).
"I learned so much in my time in the Health Services program. Most significantly, I gained my career through a class project in which we were to interview a leader that we admired. I chose to interview a long-term care administrator, who told me I would be good in a similar position," she said. "I then researched it further and began the journey to become licensed as a nursing home administrator. I have been in the industry ever since."
Denton has been with American Senior Communities since 2014 and is currently the administrator at Willowdale Village in Dale, Indiana. The residents who know about her recent pageant success are excited for her. "One even asks me about it every day," she said.
Denton is grateful for the 91社区 education that led to her career. "91社区 is a wonderful organization that offers students so many opportunities in an environment that is friendly and inviting," she said. "It is apparent through every function that the University is truly vested in the success of each student."
