Two Exhibitions in conjunction with Visions of Utopia
Samsara: Brooke Shaden
Classic & Contemporary: Selections from the Paul Paletti Collection
September 9 - October 20
Reception: Friday, October 18, 5:15 p.m.
The Kenneth P. McCutchan Art Center /Palmina F. and Stephen S. Pace Galleries is excited to host two incredible photography exhibitions for the next six weeks of the fall semester.聽
The McCutchan Art Center and Pace Gallery 1 showcases work by Brooke Shaden. Brooke is a contemporary photographer who lives in Flagstaff, AZ.聽 Her series Samsara 鈥渃reates a rich, uncomfortable, and open space to dissect how we internalize grief, and how other cultures practice rituals surrounding death. As you look at the art, assess your own relationship to your ephemeral existence and eventual death.鈥 The works in this series are mixed media, combining photography with painted applications of acrylic and unconventional materials, such as dirt, feathers, and human hair.
On view in Pace Gallery 2 & 3 is Classic & Contemporary: Selections from the Paul Paletti Collection, generously on loan to us by Paul Paletti, an attorney and art collector, based in Louisville, KY. The show comprises thirty-four photographs from Paul鈥檚 extensive collection, which demonstrates a breadth of more than a hundred and seventy years of photographic history. This is a museum caliber exhibition and there are some truly iconic images and artists included in this exhibition that will capture the attention of both students and photography buffs alike.
Both shows are being held in conjunction with the Visions of Utopia, the Midwest chapter of the Society for Photographic Education鈥檚 annual conference, being held on campus and in New Harmony October 12-20.
These exhibitions will be on display in the MAC/Pace from Monday, September 9 through Sunday, October 20, 2024. The MAC/Pace is located in the lower level of the Liberal Arts Center. Our normal hours of operation are Monday through Friday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. and on Sundays from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m.
