The World Languages and Cultures Department is committed to providing students with language skills and cultural knowledge for professional and academic careers in the 21st century. We foster and strengthen communication among widely diverse constituencies at home and abroad through outreach programs, sustained partnerships and international study.聽

  • No previous language knowledge required.
  • Test in credit available 鈥� Earn up to 12 credits.
  • Transfer students are welcome and easily placed at an appropriate level.

State Accreditation for WLC Teaching Majors:

  • WLC Teaching Majors are nationally accredited by the Council for the Accreditation of Educator Preparation (CAEP), grades P-12.

Study Abroad, Internships and Practicum Opportunities:

Eagles abroad: A summer in Osnabrück, Germany

Carrie was awarded Secondary Teacher of the Year! "I studied abroad in June 2006 at the Universität Heidelberg and again in 2009 at the Goethe Institut in Freiburg im Breisgau. I taught English for seven years before I had the opportunity to take over the German program, and I have been loving it ever since!"

Sixteen college students from universities in Indiana submitted essays on the topic of “German-American Media” and Ryan was awarded second place! Ryan is a double major in Political Science & World Languages and Cultures -German Studies.

I studied abroad in France for my spring semester in 23! Because this program is designed to teach French to international students, I was simultaneously able to learn from a French-native and professional, while also meeting and practicing the language with people from all over the world. All of my classes were in French and focused on strengthening my proficiency and knowledge of the culture.
