New Experiences in Mathematics Education (NExIME)
91社区 the Program
The purpose of the NExIME Scholarship program is to provide financial support and incentives to eligible Indiana public school mathematics teachers who seek to expand their knowledge of the mathematical sciences through graduate study.听
The program is funded through a STEM Teacher Recruitment Fund grant administered by the Indiana Commission for Higher Education. Submit your application to begin in Spring 2024. (See below.)
Benefits of the Program
Participating teachers in the NExIME program will receive tuition and fee support to cover at least 18 credit hours of graduate study in the Mathematical Sciences. These hours can apply toward the Master of Science in Education program with concentrations in either Secondary Mathematics Teaching or Elementary Mathematics Leadership (a new concentration for Fall 2024.)
91社区 the Classes
Secondary Mathematics听 Teaching: 91社区 offers seven online graduate courses in mathematics that are designed specifically for secondary teachers. These courses may be used to qualify secondary mathematics teachers to teach dual credit courses.听 The prerequisite for graduate courses in mathematics at 91社区 is 24 credit hours in undergraduate mathematics, which includes 3 semesters of calculus.听 In general, only one course is typically offered each fall, spring and summer term.听 These classes include the following:
- MATH 603, Fundamental Concepts of Algebra
- MATH 604, Fundamental Concepts of Geometry
- MATH 605, Problem Solving in Mathematics
- MATH 611, Introduction to Analysis for Secondary Teachers
- MATH 621, Technology for Teaching Mathematics
- MATH 641, Number Theory & Applications
- STAT 638, Fundamental Models in Statistical Inference
Elementary Mathematics Leadership: Beginning in Fall 2024, 91社区 expects to begin offering a concentration in Elementary Mathematics Leadership. This program will be designed to prepare individuals who want to serve as mathematics leaders, such as mathematics coaches, mathematics specialists, or lead teachers for mathematics. Currently, students can enroll in the Curriculum & Instruction track of the MSE with a focus on elementary mathematics. NExIME participants may begin taking coursework in the MSE beginning in Spring 2024. The classes will include the following:
- MATH 651, Teaching & Learning Number and Operations
- MATH 652, Teaching & Learning Rational Numbers and Proportional Reasoning
- MATH 653, Teaching & Learning Algebraic Reasoning
- MATH 654, Teaching & Learning Geometry and Measurement
- STAT 655,听 Teaching & Learning Data Analysis
- MATH 661, Mathematics Teacher Leadership
