"Art for Science's Sake: Stalking John James Audubon"

The film was produced by Dr. Leigh Anne Howard, Communication and Media Department Chair and Professor of Communication Studies, and Dr. David Black, Associate Professor of Radio and Television, the one-hour documentary explores the art and science of 19th century naturalist John James Audubon.

Outstanding Dissertation Award

Dr. Yang Yang, Assistant Professor of Advertising and Public Relations, received the Outstanding Dissertation Award from the Association of Chinese Communication Studies at the National Communication Association in 2023.

College of Liberal Arts 2023 Teaching Award

John Morris, Instructor in Radio and Television, was presented the College of Liberal Arts 2023 Teaching Award because of his hard work and dedication to the Communication and Media Department and his students.

"Art for Science's Sake: Stalking John James Audubon"

The film was produced by Dr. Leigh Anne Howard, Communication and Media Department Chair and Professor of Communication Studies, and Dr. David Black, Associate Professor of Radio and Television, the one-hour documentary explores the art and science of 19th century naturalist John James Audubon.

This one-hour film explores the art and science of 19th century naturalist John James Audubon. Dr. Howard and Dr. Black, produced the documentary after spending 10 years researching Audubon鈥檚 complicated life and art. Audubon is best known for his life-size illustrations of birds in their natural habitats and for his monumental publication, 鈥淭he Birds of America.鈥 In the documentary, Dr. Howard and Dr. Black interview Audubon biographers and experts about his contributions to the study of birds and demonstrate the stages of production 鈥 from drawing to printing to publication 鈥 that resulted in 鈥淭he Birds of America.鈥

鈥淎rt for Science鈥檚 Sake鈥 won the award for Best Hoosier-made Film at the Victory International Film Festival in Evansville, Indiana, in September 2023.
