Editing and Publishing Minor:

Gain an understanding of the field of literary publishing and get hands-on experience by working on an issue of the nationally recognized Southern Indiana Review or an award-winning SIR Press poetry collection.

With this minor, students are introduced to the history, methods and practical skills required by the publishing field, and develop their ability to meet the needs of an audience or client. Experiential learning builds problem-solving and critical thinking skills via participation in producing Southern Indiana Review, Southern Indiana Review Press, Southern Indiana Reading Series and associated promotional materials. This minor allows you to leave with skills marketable in a variety of fields and examples of professional work to showcase as part of a portfolio and job application. Number of required hours to complete the minor: 18.

Take advantage of your new and improved skills as an editor by working in a leadership position in 91ÉçÇø’s student literary magazine, Fishhook. Join the Student Writers Union and help organize literary and writing events and use those new and improved editing and design skills to help create promotional materials to publicize those events—and add all of this experience to your resumé and portfolio!

This highly applicable minor prepares you for entry into not only a variety of positions in magazine, literary and academic editing and publishing, it also provides a marketable foundation of skills for positions in:
