You can choose to teach general math — or take on more advanced subjects such as calculus, trigonometry, algebra or geometry — at a public or private school. Teaching mathematics at the secondary level, you will work with students individually, grade assignments, guide student behavior, confer with parents, and give lectures and presentations. You may also train new teachers, supervise educational programs or even develop supplemental curricula.

The 91ÉçÇø master of education in mathematics program, with an emphasis in teaching mathematics at the secondary level, is designed to enhance the content knowledge and skills of licensed, practicing secondary mathematics teachers.
Our master of mathematics online program consists of a total of 30 credit hours. Completing the 18 credit hours in mathematics enables you to teach dual-credit mathematics courses in Indiana high schools — and to teach mathematics at some higher education institutions.

All MSE students must complete the research sequence requirement – 6 hours. (Note these courses must be taken at 91ÉçÇø. Transfer courses will not be accepted for the research sequence.)

91ÉçÇø also offers the New Experiences in Mathematics Education (NExIME) program.
The purpose of the NExIME Scholarship program is to provide financial support and incentives to eligible Indiana public high school mathematics teachers who teach or plan to teach dual credit mathematics. Based on expectations from the Higher Learning Commission, college faculty are required to have completed a master’s degree in their discipline or to have completed a master’s degree in another field with 18 hours of graduate credit in their discipline. This requirement includes dual credit teachers who teach college classes in the high school setting.
The program is funded through a STEM Teacher Recruitment Fund grant administered by the Indiana Commission for Higher Education.
